We are sharing a recent work that we did, the arts of War Game of Thrones (War GoT, to make life easier). The game War will complete 50 years of existence in 2022 and a commemorative edition is in the oven, but perhaps War Got represents this date very well. The development took 2 years. Yes, from the first contacts with the licensor, the first studies until the delivery of the files to the printer, there were back and forth that seemed endless.
It is always good to remember that many people are involved in the process of creating a product. The design was developed and orchestrated here at Oktaedro, but we received instructions and guidance from Warner, who owns the GoT brand, from the board, marketing managers, and the commercial manager of Grow, among others. Everyone in the production chain has the right to comment and discuss every detail of the art, so that we guarantee engagement in the sales process for the stores. Even Grow’s SAC is involved and before launch they were already prepared to ask questions about the game.
Another important source of information is the print shop you are going to produce. If you are used to dealing with printers, you know that each one has aspects that differentiate them in the market. For example, the ‘black shoe’. The black areas of prints usually have to be ‘shod’ in other colors. Only black ink on white paper can bring out a washed tone, which people call gray (grayish type, like gray hair).
So we added a little blue and magenta in the black areas. But each printer prefers a specific shim. It’s worth checking in advance! Here we default to using the composition Cyan 15% + Magenta 15% + Yellow 0% + Black 100%. But we are always open to negotiation. Because what you see on your computer screen can be completely different than the printed result.
Check it out in the image. From a distance we hardly notice the difference, but when we touch each other the difference becomes clearer.
To see this result on screen, go into Illustrator Preferences and choose the option that makes the most sense for your work.
